Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars or for short, DWTS: A dance competition featuring professional dancers who train celebrities with no dance experience what so ever. DWTS happens live every Monday nights on the channel 'ABC'. I thought I might write about it because not only is it really fun to see people who you never thought could dance, actually dance, but you really get to connect with all of the contestants. On this season (number 22, I think), there are so many new ideas coming out of each of the dances. There's real symbolism to it all. My favorite professional or "pro" dancer is Mark Ballas. He was classically trained when he was younger, but now does a lot of contemporary work. I really like his choreography because he has such a creative mind, and he comes up with these extravagant pictures, which he then translates into his work. Last season he did a "jazz" routine about the season in Japan when there are all of these buds on trees. Jazz and Japan don't relate in any way but Mark made them seem so fluid, put together. In the dance, he and his partner Willow Shields who you may know from the Hunger Games movies (she played Prim), were ninjas, and so they did all of these choppy movements and at one point there were climbed up on these invisible ropes. All the effects that can go into a dance is pretty incredible. Another person who I really like on DWTS is the celebrity Bindi Irwin. She's currently dancing on this season. Her father was a famous "crocodile hunter". When I say that I don't mean he killed crocodiles, it's just he did a lot of insightful research about them. He was an incredible figure in the world of animal studies, and a few years ago he died because a stingray killed him. Bindi always went on missions with him, and grew up always alongside animals. Although Bindi has no dance experience she is such a natural dancer. Down below I have a picture of her and her partner, Derek, dancing. This is there dance from last week. I hope that if you like this post you go watch DWTS. You can find episodes of it on Youtube and on the ABC website. Thanks for reading, Pippa :)

NYCB Gala!!!

So this post is kind of whacky because it's two completely different subjects so I might as well be writing two different blog posts. However, the reason why I'm NOT doing that is because these things happen a day apart and the first thing will probably be about 2-3 sentences. Anyways WoAh its October already... School has gone by really fast... But I'm REALLY excited for October! There's Halloween at the end of the month and then all of these other fun events going on!!! It also means that we're just another month closer to the end of the year>>>>>>>>>>> Okay I don't know why I did that but anyways this is the part were its gonna seem like I'm writing a new blog post cause I kind of am so yeah... So I'm not one of those people where you live breath eat dance but I really do enjoy dance; honestly. Regardless I used to have a friend who was like crazy about ballet and her parents were crazy about it so they were all just crazy about it. To get to my point I learned a lot about ballet when I was friends with her and I've developed an interest in the dance itself. I'd never actually do it but I've gone and seen a lot of ballets and I've met a bunch of famous dancers from famous dance companies because of my friend. And its happens that just yesterday was the New York City Ballet Fall Gala and I thought that would be kind of cool to share with ya'll. Going back to my last post about Hamilton, there are so many opportunities in New York and I just think its so cool to know that we are surrounded by such talented, amazing people. Anyways I was excited about the Ballet Gala yesterday because there were such talented, amazing people there and its so exciting to watch dancers doing what they love. I feel like if everybody in the world could do what they love to do, the world would be a better place! Kind of cheesy but true :) To wrap up, I guess what I would say that you could take from this post is that 1. IT'S OCTOBER and 2. Do what you love because it will make your life great and thanks for reading this!!

The Broadway Show 'Hamilton'

I'm still figuring out how to exactly work this blog but I'm progressing and am actually kind of excited for this assignment. For the most part all of you are going to read the first 3 sentences of this post and get bored but please, read on. We all live in the "Big Apple" so we are all surrounded by major opportunities and entertainment. It's pretty exciting. I happened to be part of this wonderful excitement and last night saw the Broadway show, 'Hamilton'. Its about Alexander Hamilton and his story but instead of the traditional Broadway melodies all the singing and dancing was rather modern. What I mean by 'modern' is that much of the singing was in rap-form and most of the movement was either hip hop or a contemporary style. It was pretty amazing and I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for good quality entertainment. To get to my point though all of the choreography kind of reminded me of the new dance we're learning in class. It had sharp movements and some of it was really quick, but it had a certain smoothness to it all. The picture down below shows some of the movements I'm talking about. If you are to get anything of this post it's that you should probably go look up 'Hamilton' and listen to the amazing cast recording. Thanks for reading this, Pippa :)
